Friday, July 4th, 2014

I woke up to the sound of the distant TV outside of my bedroom. I could hear the low, unclear man narrating the World Cup. My parents and I have been following the World Cup ever since it started. I checked my iPod touch to see what time it was. To my surprise, I saw a text message from my best friend saying,"Happy 4th of July!" with a cute smiley face next to it. I quickly realized what day it was. I came out of my bedroom to see my parents on the couch with their eyes glued to the TV. They reminded me that Colombia
was playing Brazil that day. Both of my parents were raised in Colombia, so this was a big deal for us. I made myself some hot cocoa and two waffles for breakfast, and  joined my parents to watch the exciting and action-packed World Cup.

A couple hours later, my dad went out to get Subway sandwiches for us to eat during the big game. He came home with our lunch, and we each got dressed up to show our Colombian spirit. My dad wore a yellow T-shirt, I wore a blue tank top, and my mom wore a red shirt. Then, we got comfortable to watch the game.

My mom lost all hope when Brazil made their first goal, but I still thought Colombia would win. Then Colombia made their first goal and we all cheered. Colombia still had a chance. When they blew the final whistle and Brazil won by one goal, our hearts sank. We stayed there on the couch, shocked at the results.

Later that day, my parents and I changed our outfits once again to get ready to celebrate the fourth of July. My mom and I were very patriotic. We wore red, white, and blue necklaces, and fourth of July stickers on our arms and cheeks. Then we drove up to Dana Point, took a crowded bus to our destination, bought our tickets, and waited in line to sail, Fury. While we waited in line, we were able to sneak in a couple of pictures.

Once we boarded Fury at around eight, we placed ourselves in the right corner of the back of the boat. We had watched the fireworks last year too, so we knew where to stand, from experience. As we slowly sailed to the middle of the harbor, we took many more pictures to pass the time. The fireworks were to begin at nine when it was dark.

Once nine came, they began to play some patriotic music to go with the fireworks. Watching the fireworks was a spectacular experience. I loved the loud crackle the fireworks made. My very favorite firework, was a golden, sparkly one that burst into what looked like a lion's beautiful mane, and then dramatically disintegrated. The magical fireworks lasted for about an hour.

Afterwards, we entered a restaurant called, Wind and Sea, to use the restroom. We unexpectedly ate dinner there. I ate three delicious sliders and talked and laughed with my parents all night. As we ate our delectable meals, we listened to the live music they had on stage. There was a man singing and playing his guitar. His songs were delightful and entertaining. In a couple of his songs, he paused so that the audience could sing along. It was a very fun restaurant to be at.
We then got on the bus to get back to our car, and drove home. Each one of us was very sleepy and were starting to doze off. My mom and I had to pinch my dad so that he would stay awake while driving. Once we arrived at our home at around midnight, we all unloaded and went straight to bed. I thought about our day, and how much fun we had.
I had a perfect fourth of July that will always be remembered.
